About Morayfield: history and local economy

Morayfield sits immediately south of Caboolture, between Caboolture South, Burpengary, Narangba and Burpengary East. The name dates from 1868, when George Raff bought land from the failed Caboolture Cotton Company and called it Moray Field after Morayshire in Scotland. Remnants of the Oaklands Sugar Mill and the heritage-listed Morayfield State School recall its farming past.

Morayfield stayed largely rural, with small dairy and crop farms, until the mid 1980s. Morayfield Shopping Centre opened in 1997, and around 24,900 people lived in the suburb at the 2021 Census.

The local economy. Morayfield Road is one of the busiest commercial strips in Moreton Bay, lined with showrooms, medical centres, food outlets and service businesses, with Morayfield Shopping Centre as the main retail hub. Trades and technical workers, community and personal service workers and professionals are the most common occupations. Around them you will find retailers, health practices, cafés, tradespeople, transport operators and family-run businesses of every kind.
